28 Isaac lived a hundred and eighty years. 29 Then he breathed his last and died and was gathered to his people, old and full of years. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
After all of the tension and years of separation, the brothers are united again. It is not the same as when Jacob returned from his years with Laban or when he stole his brother's blessing and birthright while deceiving his father. These brothers come together for the sake of their father.
It is the death of Isaac that brings these brothers together again.
Funerals can do something strange to us. He can weep and wail all up until the estate is divided. We can hug and hold each other up in prayer all the way up until we get to the part where they start to talk about who gets what. Things tend to change at that point.
Well, That may be in most cases, but not here.
Isaac's death brought these brothers together and they did not end up fighting. They did not start a civil war of brother against brother. The buried their father together. They did not call each other out. They buried their daddy in peace. Imagine that. This was a family at peace and able to put their father to rest in peace.
