We can list many things that money can do. But money most certainly cannot satisfy the soul.

Why Your Manna is in a Mess
In the evening quail came up and covered the camp, and in the morning dew lay around the camp. And when the dew had gone up, there was on the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as frost on the ground. When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “It is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat. This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Gather of it, each one of you, as much as he can eat. You shall each take an omer, according to the number of the persons that each of you has in his tent.’” And the people of Israel did so. They gathered, some more, some less. But when they measured it with an omer, whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack. Each of them gathered as much as he could eat. And Moses said to them, “Let no one leave any of it over till the morning.” But they did not listen to Moses. Some left part of it till the morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them. Morning by morning they gathered it, each as much as he could eat; but when the sun grew hot, it melted.
-Exodus 16:13-21 (ESV)
The bread from heaven that God provides represents our daily supply from God. God promises to provide enough for us for the present day. In this episode of scriptural accounts, God commanded through Moses “Let no one leave any of it over till the morning.” However, the people disregarded the commandment regarding the manna and the manna became a mess.
The manna was a mess because it:
- Spoiled: worms began to breed in the bread
- Stank: the leftovers began to have a stench that emerged
- Stained: the leftover manna left a stain among the people due to their greed
"The world has enough for everyone's need, but not enough for everyone's greed."

Blessings from Bonhoeffer
Believe him to be the Son of God,
and you will find him wonder upon
wonder, counsel upon counsel.
-Dietrich Bonhoeffer
A few years ago, I was introduced to Dietrich Bonhoeffer through a play that depicted an interaction between Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Ever since that introduction, I have read something by Bonhoeffer at least once a year.
Recently, I continued reading Life Together by Bonhoeffer. Undoubtedly, it reminds me of the kindred spirit that Bonhoeffer offers me through his discourse on the concept of community to people of faith. In all fairness, Bonhoeffer shares some inspirational words that should cause us all to pause for a moment and realize the true value of our Christian community despite the shortcomings and mistakes of our humanity.
I also started reading I Want to Live These Days with You, a daily devotional by Bonhoeffer. I had read through it previously back in 2006 and 2009. As I prepared for 2013, I decided to return to the devotional once again. I had done the same with My Utmost for His Highest by Chambers and Morning and Evening by Spurgeon.
I suggest that most believers could glean something from Bonhoeffer's writings. He provides the reader with both inspiration and insight.

Danger Ahead
Wherefore Christian was left to tumble in the Slough of Despond alone; but still he endeavored
to struggle to that side of the slough that was farthest from his own house, and next to the wicket-gate;
the which he did, but could not get out because of the burden that was upon his back: but I beheld
in my dream, that a man came to him, whose name was Help, and asked him what he did there.
. . . Fear followed me so hard that I fled the next way, and fell in.
- Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan

Bunyan's protagonist is aptly named Christian. He struggles with which way to go and who to listen to as he searches his way through life. That may sound familiar to many of us as Christians. We have spent some time trying to find our own way and the help of others have sometimes led us astray. That appears to be nothing new.
Pilgrim's Progress is a book full of symbolism. Yet, it is a tale that should resonate with most of us. It should remind us of our constant struggle to stay on the right path. Through this christian classic, we should remember that life is full of dangers ahead and just around the bend. It may not simply be the things that we encounter upon the road itself. It may be the danger of the very people who cross our path along the way. We may do well to not listen to some of the folks who seem to know so much and cause us so much trouble as we follow their lead.

Paul wrote it this way: "Test everything. Hold on to the good" (1 Thessalonians 5:21, NIV). Don't simply look into what people say and take it as gospel. The Bible warns us of false teachers and their twisting of the Word of God for their own benefit and gain. Learn to discern the truth based upon your understanding of the Word and the urging of the Holy Spirit.

Even in his letters from prison, Paul is careful to state: "It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains" (Philippians 1:15-17, NIV). Jude urged the believer to "contend for the faith," while John shared that we should imitate and do "what is good." We cannot spend a lot of time following behind this manipulators and workers of evil. We have to focus on the good that comes from God that produces love and peace, even joy and forgiveness. If we do as He has said for us to do, we will uphold the truth that comes from Him and he will destroy that which defies His Word.
Be careful to hold onto the Word of God as truth. Otherwise, when you least expect it, you will find danger ahead.

Let Your Faith Be Seen
"Faith and prayer are the vitamins of the soul; man cannot live in health without them."
- Mahalia Jackson
Faith is expected to be on display. In one way or another, believers are expected to somehow show that they truly believe what they profess and proclaim. We are supposed to walk and live by faith.
One way to show your faith is to show it with your appearance. T-shirts or buttons can show your faith in Jesus. Your accessories can have inspirational images or messages. Even your car or truck can display your faith with window decals, bumper stickers or personalized license plate frames.
This Easter season, Life Path Ministries spreads the Gospel message through our Spread the Love Campaign. Join the movement and get on board with your church or ministry, even your small group, and spread the love with other believers during the week leading into Easter Sunday. How could we expect people to show up on Easter Sunday if we never show, share or spread the love of Christ? Check out the Love Your Neighbor t-shirts and buttons that we sell on Zazzle through Life Path Ministries. These are examples of how you can get others to show it more than they say it.

Saved But Suffering

Things happen. If you read it on a bumper sticker, you would probably get another version of what happens. We just have to come to grips with the reality and fact of the matter. Things just happen.
Things happen that are out of our control. Things happen that are caused by our bad decisions. Things happen because of what do or don't do, what we say or fail to say. Things happen.
We have to learn to accept God's will. We cannot simply toss around the notion that Satan is out to get us every time that we come across an uneasy situation. We have to realize that God's will is perfect. He allows things to happen, even to us as his children, so that He may get the glory in the outcome. He is always at work. He may be working on us before He ever works it out in our favor.
Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials - James 1:2 (NASB)
God is able to work everything out. He has a plan that is carried out through His will. Both are perfect. His will is perfect and so is His plan. How He works it out will work together for our good and His glory.

A Fiasco of Faith
And let our people also learn to maintain good works,
to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful.
- Titus 3:14 (KJV)

So what's the deal? Are we faithful? If we are so faithful, we should be full of fruit. We should be fruitful.
We become unfruitful, in the words of Paul to Titus, when we fail to meet urgent needs and to maintain good works. Being without fruit, barren in other words, we demonstrate little faith.

Fruit is the byproduct of your works. Your works should produce something. The fruit stands as evidence of the effort on your part. No faith equals no fruit. It is a simple formula.
Keep the faith.

Healed and Helped
Despite the man's response, Jesus healed
Jesus expects the same of you. He wants you to get up off your duff and do something. He's not healing you from your wounds for your own good. He's not helping you just for the sake of helping you. I have said it before and I will say it again: God wants something for us and He wants something from us. Perhaps, some of us are not getting what God wants for us because we are not giving God what He wants from us.

True Bread Test
Manna Doesn’t Pass the True Bread Test [John 6:26-58]
Jesus shared that manna doesn’t pass the true bread test because their forefathers ate manna and still died (vv. 31, 49, 58).
The Master fulfills more than manna.
Manna cannot pass the true bread test.
Manna can fill your stomach, but it cannot satisfy and save your soul.

There is only one “bread of life” that:
Comes from heaven
(vv. 33, 38, 50-51, 58)
Does the will of the Father
(vv. 38-40)
This is the bread that passes the true bread test.

From Eden to Egypt Day 27
Some time later God tested Abraham... Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about.” - Genesis 22:1-2 (NIV)
Even the best get tested. The faithful are still tried and taken through things. The trusting must go through trials and tribulations.
Why?
Check the Christian blogosphere and the answers will range from your garden variety samplings of strengthening, suring up, and building up to a few unorthodox views that take a stab at suggesting such tests and trials are to prove faithfulness. The latter examples do not seem so unorthodox until you see that the divide that occurs with these views is that it is proving the believer's faithfulness to God on one side and showing that God is faithful,
keeping all of His promises just as He has said
.
Father Abraham was tested by God "some time later" according to the New International Version
Before some super-sanctified prayer warrior
Ponder how much God desires a deeper and closer relationship with you. Identify at least two things that you could sacrifice for a closer walk with Him. Please do not including your children, wife or in-laws on the list. Some tests just come with the territory. Start tearing away from those "sacrifices." Do it first thing tomorrow morning. Purge yourself of them. Leave them at God's altar and do not return for them no matter how much you want them back. If you can recall, I used the word sacrifice. It's the same type of sacrifice that is symbolized when John the Baptizer
