Again and Again and Again

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. - 1 John 1:9 (NIV)

So watch yourselves. “If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him.
- Luke 17:3 (NIV)

"Forgiveness is unlocking the door to set someone free and realising you were the prisoner!"
Max Lucado

I don't forget what I have done.  All of the bad that I have stirred up still has its lingering effects.  I try to cover the scars and the tattoos with navy blue and banker's grey power suits.  I hide the tears that I want to shed for my wrongs behind the dark lenses of wrap-around shades or under the low-riding brim of a fedora.

Then, always right before I get totally worn out and weighed down, He speaks softly to my spirit through His Holy Spirit.

I took care of that for you already.

I stand in awe, wondering how could that be.

I fight with myself to come to some understanding why.  Why would the Savior do so for me?

Me? I have all of this baggage, though.

I wonder what I am to do without all of this junk to carry around.

But I sin, Lord.

I forgive.

No, I mean I really sin.

I forgive.

I am a real big sinner.  I know I do not  please You.

I forgive.

What about from here on and I mess up?

I forgive.

And if it is more? Or, even worse?

I forgive.

Yes.

And again?

Yes.

And again and. . .

Yes.

How long will you keep that up?

Forever.

Eternity.

Day after day.

Until you make it to your new home with Me.

Amen.*

Amen.*

* Amen is translated as "so be it" or "it is so." It offers a response of agreement or declared affirmation.

The World Uses the Word

...The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.- 1 John 3:1 (ESV)
...For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light.- Luke 16:8 (NIV)
The world did not know him according to the first verse posted above. In fact, John wrote earlier in his gospel account: He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. Believe it or not, John also said that Jesus came to His own people and they did not even receive Him. Needless to say, Jesus was not received well by the world.
Yet, the world did something different with His Word. While many did not accept Jesus as the Messiah and the Anointed One, the world did take His Word to a totally different place. The world took His Word and did something different with it.
The world tainted His Word. It puts everything else alongside His Word and simply held the Word without reverence or much regard. The world twisted the Word. It bent the Word this way and that way to make it work for them. They use the Word in such a that makes the Word as more of a reference source than a relied-upon source. The world tweaked the Word. It added some here and removed some there, straying away from the truth of the Word.
Don't rely on the world. Rely on the Word. Put your full trust in the Word. As a Christian, the world does not understand you because the world does not understand Him. Stay with the Word.

End the Cycle

... every man did what was right in his own eyes.
Judges 17:6 (NASB)
At some point, we have to end the cycle of our own destruction. We need to see that we cannot simply turn back to our old ways. Once we slip back into our old mode of operation, we begin to slip further and further away from the ways of God. Instead of being Spirit-led people, we become people who live by instinct. We end up moving out of the light and gradually drift into the darkness. Itis attimes like this when we need to pray to God for forgiveness, admitting that we have gone astray from Him, and submit to God's Spirit, accepting the way that He has called us to go. Let today begin your fresh start at staying on course and ending the cycle that has led so many down the road of destruction.

Not Again

It seems to happen every so often. I think it happens less often nowadays since I am more aware of it. It just creeps up as if it had been lingering for days, waiting on me and ready to pounce at the first open opportunity. I try to avoid it, but it stays nearby. Like I said, since I am more aware, it pops up less frequently but it still shows up.
Truly, it's my other side. it is the part of me that I have tried to fight off daily by going to Lord in prayer and searching out His Word. It's my first nature and it can be troublesome. It gets under my skin because, well, it dwells within me and wages war with the me that I desperately want to be. Prayer helps. Wise counsel does, too. Bible study comforts me and so does praise. Nonetheless, it comes up every now and then, so I beg you to forgive me.

Changed for the Better

Lord, I know I've been changed. . .
Negro spiritual
What do you think is going to happen when Christians start "walking" according to the change that the Lord has made in their lives? Will we see a difference in one another? Will our perspective on the world be altered? Will we have a new view on life?
I imagine that many Christians feel that they are in a sanctified slump at times. What I am getting at is that nagging feeling that you know the Lord but you just aren't growing closer to the Lord. It's not that you don't have the desire to get closer to Him. It's not like you have left your "first love." It's just that you don't feel that you are growing in your spiritual walk with the Lord. I've been there. I think, if most of us were truly honest about it, most of us have been there, too.
The problem is with us, not God. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow (Heb. 13:8). We need to change. We need to give up our worldly perspective for a kingdom perspective. We must go from our nature that was in the likeness of Adam to a new birth that alows us to be fashioned after Christ. It's that same put off the old man and put on the new man (Eph. 4:22). In essence, we must embrace being changed as part of the change. Otherwise, we find ourselves straddling the fence of acceptance and tolerance, still being led by our sinful nature and not fully submitting to our new nature in Christ. drop your old ways and determine to live in the newness of Christian joy.

A New Creation in Christ

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
- 2 Cor. 5:17 (NIV)

God does something to us when we accept Christ. There is something new that takes place within us. We may not be able to pinpoint it to any one thing in particular, but there should be some evidence of the change that has taken place within us. As the Word says, something "new" has come about.

Thank God that the "old has gone." Whether it has gone away or what, it's gone. It no longers matters. It doesn't carry any weight. It isn't that big of a deal. God has dealt with our past through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ at the cross on Calvary. We have no ownership of our past since we have been bought with a price by Christ (1 Cor. 6:20).

Christ has completed salvation on our behalf before God the Father. All that we have to do is two things. We have to live free from our past. We have to live as "new" creations. Our living will give others the incentive to live in Christ.

It Ain't Easy

"For the good that I wish, I do not do; but I practice the very evil that I do not wish."- Romans 7:19 (NASB)

Paul points out what many of us have learned over the years as Christians. He shares the problem that many of us face, day by day, moment by moment. Being a Christian in this human body is not easy. We can find ourselves working against ourselves, fighting the very thing that we are to be about. It is unfortunate but true.

Take a stab at something greater. Be cognizant of the things that work against our new nature as new creations in Christ Jesus. Try living at a higher level rather than lowering yourself to someone else's level. You just might see yourself working towards elevating towards a higher level.

HELPFUL HINT:
Looking for growth in your ministry? Have you been seeking God's blessing over your spiritual development? Seek out some specific targets. Set a date of when you would like to see growth and measure up until that date. Keep track of what you did and why you did it. Jot down any Bible verses that may have encouraged you or confirmed your desires. Keep growing, and keep track of your growth as you grow.

Amen Me!
