Leaders Lead by the Light

Ye are the light of the world.
A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
- Matthew 5:14

Let's be honest.  Real Christian leadership cannot simply rely on charismatic personas or catchy buzz words and slogans.  Christian leadership must embody the True Light (John 1:9).  Christian leadership must reflect that same Light.  Christian leadership must lead others by living as "the light of the world."

We cannot hide that light.
We cannot dim that light.
We cannot deny that light.

We must let our light shine before others in order to lead others to the True Light.

Lead Them to Christ

And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit.- 1 Corinthians 2:4 (NLT)

People need to hear the gospel, not gimmicks.  Paul shared the message was about the Master.  He didn't get into clever wordplay and double talk that confused people and complicated salvation.  He made his message very plain.  He just preached about Christ and relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit.  Paul kept it simple and direct.

We should be more concerned with leading someone to Christ more than inviting them to church.  Simply inviting them to church has more to do with the various selling points of what our church has to offer as opposed to the multitudes of blessings that Jesus Christ our Savior has to offer those who will hear and come to Him.

Gospel means "good news." When we share the gospel with others, we engage in the delivery of the message of the Messiah and his mighty work of salvation.  Good News Bible: With Deuterocanonicals/Apocrypha [Good News Translation]Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, SpyPeople need to know that Jesus is the root and foundation of the Good News, the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Share the good news of Jesus, not simply the good things about your church.  Your church should help disciple new believers, but it is Jesus Christ who converts them by faith upon belief in Him.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer put it in real simple terms: "Up with Christ, down with church."

Do Some Good

"Do good with what you have or it will do you no good." - William Penn

You need to be able to do some good for others.  That should be a given.  The believer is to serve as a blessing.

Who was the last person whom you blessed?

I am talking about folks beyond you immediately family or even your extended family.  I mean people who do not go to your church or work on the same floor as you.  Who? I am talking about people who could not pay back the blessing.  I am talking about people who are in no position to even think about giving you anything except a kind word like "Thank you" or "god bless you."

Do some good.  Hook up with some others and do some good.  Show the world your faith by doing some good works.  Don't let this summer go by without reaching out and helping out someone else who is in need.  Start right where you are today.

Share Christ

Zondervan NIV Study Bible40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus. - John 1:40-42 (NIV)

Sandals in the Dust-Lives of the 12 ApostlesAndrew, the brother of Simon Peter, demonstrates the urgency of sharing Christ with others, especially friends and family.  He heard John the Baptist speak of the Lamb of God and immediately found his own brother.  He told him about Christ and he took him to Christ.  He did not leave it at simply sharing Christ as a conversation.  He led his brother to where he could meet Christ himself.

How to Share Christ ConfidentlyWe need to understand how to share Christ and show people the way to Christ.  We can still introduce people to Christ.  We can still lead people to Christ.  We must be sure of our relationship with Christ and sure to share that relationship with others.

Make sure that you make an effort to share Christ with those whom you love.  Don't delay.  Be sure to share Him honestly and openly with others.

Going Grassroots with the Gospel

A Voice in the Wilderness: God's Presence in Your Desert Places
The Four Gospels (3rd ed.)

We should all be like voices crying out in the wildernessWe must stand out like John the Baptist, calling out Herod and his wrongs as ruler just as much as we call out the wrongs of the people and seek repentance among them.

The Measure of Our Success : Letter to My Children and YoursWe must discover our voices in the wilderness of this life.  We may be called upon to advocate for those without a voice.  Who will speak for the children if we remain silent? Who will speak for the elderly or the disabled if we remain silent? We have to find our voice and speak boldly according to what the Lord says in His Word.

We should offer hope to this world.  We should shine as beams of radiant light among men, letting our lights shine brightly.  Our work in ministry should take the Word from the sanctuary to the streets

Becoming Barnabas: The Ministry of EncouragementJohn the Baptist: Prophet And DiscipleLet us go grassroots with the gospel message.  Let us preach boldly like John the Baptist.  Let us build missions, churches and small groups like Barnabas and Paul in Acts.  Let us spread the Word here and there, everywhere that we go.  Let us go grassroots with the gospel message.

Living as Missionaries

D. L. Moody: The Greatest Evangelist of the Nineteenth Century
"If we are all Christians, we shall all be missionaries."- D.L. Moody

Missionaries are on a mission.  They go out and about, spreading the gospel and good works.  Some teach English in foreign lands while teaching the Bible.  Others conduct special projects through urban ministry.  Missionaries do the will of God by doing the works that God called them to do among those who believe and others who are in unbelief.  They serve the Lord by serving people.
